What if Sita and Draupadi were friends? Just two women who sat together at dusk, their stories unraveling through conversation. This question was the seed of Sakhi. In imagining this bond, we peel away the grandiosity of myth and touch the raw, human ache beneath. Sita’s quiet endurance and Draupadi’s fiery defiance are often held in contrast, but in Sakhi, they find space to coexist. This piece reimagines epic women outside the gaze of men and kingdoms, exploring friendship as sanctuary of resistance. In Sakhi, we imagine a parallel mythology, one authored by the quiet, unrecorded voices of women who have always lived between the lines of text. Fire, which society uses as both verdict and punishment in their stories, becomes a metaphor for the gaze that consumes women while claiming to sanctify them. Through this piece, Keelaka seeks toreclaim that fire through conversation, of shared rage, of re-authorship.
