Mohana Grant: To announce in 2026

Why?

The Mohana Grant is in honour of all aspiring theatre artists who need a little support to do a lot.

It is a reminder that your work matters. That your journey matters. And that sometimes, all an artist needs is someone to say: keep going.

With this grant, Adishakti hopes to support committed theatre practitioners who are seeking rigorous training but may not have the financial means to access it.

What?

The Mohana Grant is an annual grant of INR 1,00,000 awarded towards participation in the Adishakti Laboratory for Theatre Art Research Source of Performance Energy (SOPE) training programme.

The grant may be awarded as:

  • One full scholarship for a single artist, or
  • Two partial scholarships for two artists,

depending on the applications received and the jury’s decision.

The scholarship is intended to support theatre artists committed to deepening their practice through intensive training.

Who Can Apply?

This grant is for active theatre practitioners who:

  • Are deeply committed to theatre practice and performance
  • Wish to train and grow through SOPE
  • Require financial assistance to attend the course
  • Age: Between 18 and 35

Note: Applications are welcome from artists across India. We believe the Indian theatre landscape is strengthened by diverse voices and experiences. Artists from different regions, languages, communities, and economic backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

What the Grant Covers

“Travel expenses to and from Adishakti must be borne by the participant.”

How to Apply (Note: Age restrictions: 18-35)

Please email the following documents:

  • Your updated CV
  • A motivation letter (maximum 500 words) explaining why this opportunity matters to you
  • Short 2 minutes video introduction.
  • Your past 3 years’ account statement
  • Your parents’/guardians’ past 3 years’ account statement
  • Two recommendation letters from theatre practitioners, including:
    • Name
    • Contact number
    • Years/experience in theatre
  • Details of 3 prominent plays you have acted in, along with video links (Google Drive/YouTube links accepted)
  • The SOPE batch you are available to attend

Important Dates

  • Shortlisted Candidates Notified: July 15

Selection Process

Shortlisted applicants may be invited for an online conversation/interview with the selection panel.

Selections will be based on:

  • Commitment to the theatre practice
  • Need for financial support
  • Clarity of motivation
  • Previous theatre experience and engagement

Terms & Conditions

  1. This grant is intended for artists who genuinely require financial support to attend the course. We request applicants to apply with honesty and integrity.
  2. Selected participants must attend all sessions and be fully available for the entire duration of the course.
  3. The scholarship is non-transferable.
  4. Applicants who have attended SOPE before are not eligible for this grant.
  5. Incomplete applications may not be considered.
  6. Adishakti reserves the right not to award the grant if suitable applications are not received.
  7. Applicants who are not selected this year are welcome to apply again in future years.
  8. Submission of documents does not guarantee selection.
